The Sufi Choir. The Sufi Dance & Song Record. San Francisco, CA. 1975. Sufi Choir is a frustrating band. Moments that are divine, so much potential. Hare Krishna Avant Garde Rock. But those are just a few scattered moments butted up against bad 70's pop rock. They made exquisite album art work and the ladies of the Sufi Choir were something to behold. I grew up in their home town, San Anselmo, CA.

Caldera - A Moog Mass: Catholic Psychedelic Moog with processed vocals.
Musically, this is a beautiful piece of work. One of the more obscure pieces from the late 60's / early 70's Moog genre. The use of marionettes and heavy vocal processing made this a surrealist experience for the early 70's Catholic but this was a lucky break for us modern listeners. Far too strange for its time and intended audience, this rarity is perfect for me.
Disturbing and beautiful. The spoken word sections make me mighty uncomfortable. Weird, haunting and pious. Cannot be ignored when played. Will arouse the curiosity of your neighbor when played.

1 - "Come" Grunt Records 1972
The label owned by the Jefferson Airplane. Semi-spiritual in a seventies San Francisco / Marin kind of way. This Bolinas band epitomizes the era. It strangely veers from muzak to avant garde in a cultish manner. You'll love it, you'll hate it. Strange stuff.
These guys were there and through they were riduclous, but I like it: Got a Revolution
Mark Baker - Drums
Reality "D" Blipcrotch Voice, Percussion
Roger Crissinger Organ, Piano
Frank Trevor Fee -Bass
Donald Ensslin Rhythm Guitar, Banjo
Marc Granat - Guitar, sitar, dulcimer
Sarah Oppenheim - Voice, Autoharp
Laurie Paul - Voice, Tanpura
Theodore Teipel - Flute, Harmonica, Piano
